Message from the President
Our 2013 – 2014 season at APICS Toronto is off to a great start!
Firstly, Branko Tosic VP Programs, Events and Corporate Relations and Jain Thevaril Director of Programs and Events have been busy putting together a great selection of Professional Development Meetings (PDM) and plant tours.
We have held three plant tours and a PDM so far this season – all of which were great successes. If you have a suggestion for a plant tour or a PDM event, please feel free to contact Branko or Jain. Their contact information is available in the Contacts section of our website and when you click on their names, their email addresses are visible.
Secondly, The APICS Chapter Benchmarking and Recognition (CBAR) program has recognized the APICS Toronto Chapter by awarding the Gold Award designation to our chapter. This is the statement from APICS, related to our accomplishment:
“Chapter Management Excellence is an integral component to enhancing the member experience. Successful APICS chapters provide their members with opportunities for stellar education, career development, and networking.
The APICS Chapter Benchmarking and Recognition (CBAR) program recognizes chapters that have exceeded minimum standards and exemplify excellence in overall chapter management. We are proud to announce the APICS Toronto Chapter received the 2013 CBAR Gold Award designation, an admirable accomplishment for an APICS chapter.
As a member of an APICS Gold Award Winning Chapter, the CBAR designation signifies your chapter’s commitment to providing an exceptional membership experience.”
And we continue on with this commitment. As part of our strategic planning process, we incorporate all of the elements of the CBAR criteria into our chapter plans to ensure we meet or exceed the expectations of our membership, other APICS chapters, APICS Canadian District, and the APICS organization.
Another announcement from the 2013 International Conference that I forgot to mention in last month’s letter to you was that APICS has developed a new mobile app called ‘Learn It’. This free app (downloadable from ITunes or Google Play) provides access to more than 4,500 terms and definitions from the APICS Dictionary, presents a term of the day, and can be used to improve your APICS vocabulary with a game of flashcards. This is a great app and I encourage you to give it a try.
We are always looking for articles of interest that you wish to share with our membership – please forward articles to Emily Zhao, our VP of Communications and we will publish them on our website. This is a great opportunity to share your knowledge and perspectives with our membership.
And finally, one last reminder that there is an APICS Item Writing workshop scheduled on November 15 and 16, 2013 in Toronto. The deadline to register for this workshop has been extended to November 7th. This is a wonderful opportunity for a CPIM or CFPIM certified member that can make the commitment of donating some time to assist in creating exam material. The benefits of this activity for the participants include:
- earning 16 certification maintenance points for two days of attendance and 5 points toward the CFPIM application
- gaining insights that can be used to help students prepare for the exams
- improving your item-writing skills for any class you develop
- discovering that item writing is a skill you'd like to develop further
- becoming more familiar with the certification committees and the procedures for developing and validating individual items and exam forms
- networking and working with other APICS volunteers to keep the exam questions current and relevant
Please go to our events section of our website for more details on this workshop and to register.
If there is anything you wish to discuss with me such as suggestions how we can improve or if you wish to volunteer, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com or on my cell at 416-890-8374.
I hope everyone has a fantastic November!
